Learn How To Help Your Kids Be Safer Drivers:
Keeping Your Kids Safe from Distracted Driving and Driving Under the Influence

Our children suffer the most from distracted driving. According to the AAA Foundation, nearly 60% of serious teen crashes are caused by distraction. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that, per mile driven, teens are involved in fatal crashes caused by distraction at about 3 times the rate of any other age group. Your children are more likely to be involved in a distracted driving crash today than one caused by drunk driving.

In addition, the use of alcohol, especially by younger drivers, continues to be a problem. Young drivers (ages 16-20) are 17 times more likely to die in a crash when they have a blood alcohol concentration of .08% than when they have not been drinking. One in five teen drivers involved in fatal crashes had some alcohol in their system in 2010. Most of these drivers (81%) had blood alcohol content levels higher than the legal limit for adults.

Join us on December 19th at 7pm in the South Brunswick High School Auditorium for a discussion on teen distracted driving, driving under the influence of alcohol and other substances, and the use of seat belts.

Our keynote speaker is Joel Feldman, a lawyer from Philadelphia who established EndDD.org (End Distracted Driving) after his daughter Casey was killed by a distracted driver in Ocean City, NJ in 2009. Since then, Joel has worked to develop the most effective distracted driving presentations for teens and adults, recognized by the US Department of Transportation as very effective in changing teen driving attitudes and behaviors. He currently chairs the National Transportation Safety Board’s Youth Education Subcommittee, and is coordinating a teen distracted driving study with Harvard that will be the most comprehensive ever conducted. He has given more than 900 presentations to about 225,000 teens and adults.  He is a recovering distracted driver.

This free presentation is sponsored by the South Brunswick Police Department and the South Brunswick Municipal Alliance, and is part of Chief Raymond J. Hayducka's Traffic Safety Initiative, designed to address a recent increase in serious motor vehicle crashes statewide.
