On December 2, 2022, at approximately 7:42 a.m., Fremont police dispatch received 9-1-1 calls regarding a collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Blacow Road and Royal Palm Dr. Officers arrived on the scene and located a pedestrian lying on the roadway with major injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene. The pedestrian was immediately transported to a local trauma center. Officers interviewed the driver and several witnesses.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the 41-year-old female pedestrian was on the southeast corner of Blacow Road and Calaveras Ave. The pedestrian waited for the pedestrian light to cycle to the "walk" symbol. Once the pedestrian light signal cycled to the "walk" symbol, the pedestrian started walking within the painted crosswalk in a westerly direction. The pedestrian crossed all lanes of northbound Blacow Road. As the pedestrian was crossing the number one lane of southbound Blacow Road, she was struck by a vehicle driven by a 43-year-old female. The driver stopped after the collision and is fully cooperating with this investigation. There were no signs or symptoms of impairment detected with the driver. FPD officers interviewed witnesses on the scene, and they provided statements. In addition, officers canvassed the area for possible video evidence.
The pedestrian later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
Both the driver and the pedestrian were Fremont residents.
This is Fremont’s 7th fatal traffic collision in 2022.
