NPD Update: Murder Suspect Arrested
Newark, California (Tuesday, December 6, 2022)
On Friday, December 02, 2022, at approximately 2:22 p.m., the Newark Police Department responded to a fatal shooting in the 7600 block of Sunset Avenue. Upon arrival, Officers located an unresponsive adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency personnel immediately rendered aid, but unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries.
During the investigation, Newark Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Louie Lopez, a 52-year-old male resident of Washington. Detectives quickly pursued investigative leads and on Saturday, December 03, 2022, with the help of the San Jose Police Department, the suspect was located in San Jose and taken into custody without incident. Lopez was arrested for murder and booked at Santa Rita Jail. On Monday, December 5, 2022, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office formally charged Lopez with murder and use of a firearm during the commission of the felony.
This incident is not believed to be a random act and there is no known threat to the general public as a result of this incident.
