San Leandro Police Make Arrest in Amazon Van Theft:
On Tuesday, at about 11:45 am, police were sent to investigate a vehicle theft having just occurred on the 400 block of Superior Avenue. The victim, an Amazon Delivery Driver, was away from his Amazon delivery van when it was stolen. The Amazon van was equipped with GPS, and detectives located the van within minutes in the City of Oakland. Detectives commenced surveillance and saw several people rummaging through the van and the van's packages. Officers and detectives descended upon the group, who ran. After a search of the area of 99th Avenue and Plymouth Avenue, three suspects were arrested for possessing stolen property and vehicle theft.
The van was returned to the custody of Amazon.
San Leandro Police were assisted by the Oakland Police Department and the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.
"We are glad no one was hurt during this incident and police could salvage as many packages as possible," said Lieutenant Matthew Barajas.
