CRIME PREVENTION TIPS

Fraud Alert: Credit Card Skimmers
Skimming devices are hidden electronics used to steal banking and personal information stored on credit and debit cards. In most cases, skimmers are being placed inside gas pumps and are undetectable without opening the machine.

Citizens can reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim by following the below tips:
  • Pay inside at the gas station, instead of paying at the pump.
  • If not using cash, always pay with a credit card, not a debit card, for better fraud protection.
  • If using a debit card, run it as a credit card instead of putting in a PIN number.
  • Consider using a refillable prepaid card to purchase gas at the pumps.
  • If you haven’t done so already, switch to a chip reader on your card.
  • Regularly monitor your bank statement for fraudulent activity.
  • Report fraudulent activity to your local law enforcement agency.
