On 12/4/2022, at 10:49 a.m., Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Officers were dispatched to 834 Lakechime Drive (Lakewood Park) for the report of an argument. Upon the arrival of officers, it was determined a suspect had physically attacked an elderly male of Asian descent. The suspect confronted the victim, who was exercising at the park, and began telling him to "go back to your country" and "keep walking."
The suspect punched the victim approximately six times in the face while yelling, "go back to your country!" During the physical attack, the victim dropped his cellphone, which the suspect retrieved then fled the area on foot. Responding Officers located the suspect nearby and arrested him. The suspect was initially non-compliant with Officers but was later taken into custody without incident.
The elderly male sustained minor injuries which did not require medical attention. Several witnesses were located at the scene and are cooperating with the investigation.
The suspect was identified as Jesse Fausto Correa (06/18/1993). Correa was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for the following charges:
PC 211- Robbery
PC 242 – Battery
PC 368(b)(1) - Felonious Elder Abuse
PC 422.55(a)(3) - Commission of a Hate Crime
