DETAILS: On Friday, December 9th, at 1:38 am, the West Windsor Police Department received a report of a motor vehicle crash involving an ambulance on Route 1 North in the area of Carnegie Center (approaching Alexander Road). Investigation determined that the collision involved one vehicle, a Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (New Brunswick) ambulance, which went off the roadway and impacted with two road signs and two utility poles. The ambulance was occupied by two employees and there was no patient onboard. The two employees sustained minor injuries. The ambulance was not responding to an emergency at the time of the crash.
As a result of the damaged utility poles/downed wires, the shoulder and right lane of Route 1 North were closed (expected re-opening at 11 pm this evening). The incident is currently still under investigation by Ptl. G. DeBlasio.
