Winter Storm Watch

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
349 AM CST Mon Dec 12 2022

...Freezing Rain Potential Late Tonight into Tuesday Morning...

.A large weather system will bring wintry precipitation and
increasing winds to the state later today into Tuesday. While
there could be drizzle or freezing drizzle this afternoon into
early this evening, potential impacts will increase tonight into
Tuesday morning. This is when the system will swing a shield of
wintry precipitation across Iowa. While much of this will fall as
rain, temperatures are forecast at or below freezing over
northern into parts of central Iowa tonight into Tuesday morning.
This is expected to result in freezing rain and ice accumulation,
though rain rates may lessen the accretion. There also remains a
fair amount of uncertainty with the temperature forecast and
therefore ice accumulations may go up or down as forecasts are
updated and trends are monitored over the next 24 hours. Winds
will increase through the day today into tonight with the
strongest winds on Tuesday and gusts of 40 to 50 mph likely.
