INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
LOCATION: State Highway 18 Outer North/Standing Rock Avenue
INVOLVED PARTY (1): Michael Carvajal, 64-years-old, Resident of Apple Valley
INVOLVED VEHICLE (1): Pedestrian
INVOLVED PARTY (2): Andrea Porter,54-years-old, Resident of Apple Valley
INVOLVED VEHICLE (2): 2015 Mazda Mazda3
SUMMARY: On Saturday, December 10, 2022, at about 6:11 p.m., deputies from the Apple Valley Station and emergency personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Protection District and American Medical Response responded to a traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a 2015 Mazda Mazda3, in the area of State Highway 18 Outer North and Standing Rock Avenue, in the Town of Apple Valley.
Through preliminary investigation, it was determined, at the time of the collision, Michael Carvajal was laying in the westbound lane of State Highway 18 Outer North and the Mazda traveled west in westbound lane of State Highway 18 Outer North.
Upon arrival, deputies found Carvajal unresponsive and laying in the westbound lane of State Highway 18 Outer North, east of Standing Rock Avenue. The front of the Mazda struck Carvajal and as a result of the collision, Carvajal died from his injuries.
An investigator from the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is handling the traffic collision investigation. It does not appear drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in this crash.
