A member of the Wilmington Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division has received a statewide honor.
 
Detective Justin Kane was recognized as a winner of the Delaware Crime Stoppers Robert J. Seinsoth Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award, and was honored at a ceremony yesterday alongside awardees from partner agencies, including the New Castle County Police Department.
 
Detective Kane was recognized for his efforts in relation to a large-scale, long-term investigation into members of the NorthPak gang, including close collaboration with the Delaware Department of Justice, United States Marshal Service, United States Attorney’s Office, Federal Bureau of Investigation, federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Wilmington Police Crisis Management Tactical Team, New Castle County Police Department, and the Delaware State Police. This investigation included eight homicide cases, and resulted in the indictment of 16 members of the NorthPak gang in a 79-count indictment with charges including Murder (First Degree); Attempted Murder; Assault (First Degree); Robbery (First Degree); multiple firearm possession charges, Illegal Gang Participation, Reckless Endangering; Conspiracy and additional offenses.
 
Captain Malcolm Stoddard, commander of the WPD Criminal Investigations Division, praised Detective Kane and the results of his investigation.
 
“Investigations of this magnitude are extremely time consuming and arduous, and require a tremendous amount of expertise and commitment,” said Captain Stoddard. “The outcome speaks to Detective Kane’s dedication, as well as the daily efforts of every member of the Criminal Investigations Division.”
