4 arrested for DUI during Berkeley PD DUI Checkpoint

On December 9th, 4 people were arrested for DUI and 48 citations were issued during a DUI checkpoint.
 
The DUI checkpoint was held on Ashby Avenue between San Pablo Avenue and 9th Street from 7 pm 2 am.
 
29 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed, 3 drivers were cited operating a vehicle with a suspended/revoked license, 16 drivers were cited for not having their license with them while driving.  4 people were arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence.  A total of 750 drivers were contacted during the DUI checkpoint.
 
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.
 
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
