INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision

INVOLVED VEHICLE (2): Passenger
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at about 3:37 p.m., deputies from the Apple Valley Station and emergency personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Protection District and American Medical Response responded to a single vehicle roll-over collision. The collision involved a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, in a dirt field north of Blackfoot Road and Zuni Road, in the Town of Apple Valley.
Through preliminary investigation, it appears at the time of the collision a male juvenile was driving the Chevrolet south in the dirt field towards the intersection of Blackfoot Road and Zuni Road. The Chevrolet rolled approximately one time and came to rest on its wheels. The passenger, a male juvenile, was not wearing his seat belt and ejected from the passenger window. The passenger was transported by American Medical Response to St. Mary Medical Center in Apple Valley and later flown to Loma Linda Medical Center in Loma Linda.
The passenger suffered major injuries and despite efforts to treat him, he succumbed to his injuries.
An investigator from the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is handling the traffic collision investigation. It does not appear drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in this crash.
