Advisory

ARCTIC FRONT TO BRING FRIGID TEMPERATURES TO EASTERN NEW MEXICO THURSDAY.

After mostly seasonal temperatures across eastern New Mexico on
Wednesday, drastic changes are expected Wednesday night into
Thursday as a blast of cold, Arctic air overtakes the area.
Temperatures will be absolutely frigid across the northeastern
corner of the state Thursday with many locations observing daytime
highs in the single digits and teens. Daytime highs in east-central portions of the state will not be quite as harsh, but
still quite cold with temperatures struggling to make it into the
20's and low 30's Thursday afternoon. Temperatures will likely
remain below freezing for many eastern locations from late
Wednesday night through Saturday morning.

In addition to the cold temperatures, very gusty winds from the
north and northeast will create dangerously low wind chills that
will plummet below zero across a large portion of eastern New
Mexico late Wednesday night through Thursday night. In fact, wind
chills in northeastern parts of the state may fall between -25
to -35 degrees, producing a high risk for frostbite and
hypothermia to anyone outdoors.

The time to prepare is now! Take action and ensure your home and
vehicles are all winterized. Inspect and clean your fireplace and
chimney, promptly perform any necessary maintenance on your
furnace, and ensure you have a working carbon monoxide detector
with extra batteries. Make sure your pets and any livestock have
adequate shelter from the wind and cold temperatures and wrap or
insulate any outdoor plumbing fixtures. Remain tuned into the
latest weather forecast and statements at weather.gov/abq or
through your preferred media outlet.
