The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from December 5th to December 8th, 2022.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
 
December 5th
 
Attempted Grand Theft – 3200 block of Carlson Blvd. 
At 3:35 am, the victim confronted two unknown suspects in the process of stealing the catalytic converter from her vehicle.  The suspects fled on foot without the catalytic converter. 
 
License Plate Theft – 1400 block of Navellier St. 
The victim’s license plates did not show up at his residence when promised.  After waiting several additional weeks, the plates were never delivered. 
 
Grand Theft – Parking lot of 420 El Cerrito Plaza
At 10:10 hours, a passerby witnessed a man underneath a vehicle in the parking lot.  He watched as the man emerged with a catalytic converter and fled in a vehicle.  Officers were able to locate the owner of the vehicle and confirmed a theft occurred.    
 
Stolen Vehicle – 6900 block of Blake St. 
Sometime between 12/3 and 12/4, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 2011 Toyota Camry. 
 
Stolen Vehicle – Parking lot of 11939 San Pablo Ave. 
On 11/5/22, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s Demco car carrier trailer.  The victim was unaware for several weeks. 
 
Robbery (Strongarm) – 7022 Stockton Ave (7-Eleven):
At 7:35 PM, five suspects entered the 7-Eleven store carrying trash bags, ran behind the counter and stole several hundred dollars worth of cigarettes.  They also ordered the clerk to open the register or they would “beat him”.  The clerk opened the registers, and the suspects took approximately $300 cash.  No weapons were seen or claimed.  The suspects fled on foot westbound on Stockton Avenue. 
S-1 was described as a Hispanic male, teens, 6'0", 190 lbs., wearing a red hoodie, grey shorts, red shoes, and a mask and carrying a black garbage bag.  S-2 was described as a Hispanic male, teens, 6'0", 160 lbs., wearing a grey hoodie, blue jeans, brown/white shoes, and a mask.  S-3 was described as a Hispanic male, early 20’s, 6'0", 150lb, wearing a black hoodie, black pants, black shoes, and a mask.  S-4 was described as a black male, early 20’s, 6'0", 190lb, wearing a black hoodie, black pants, black shoes, and a mask.  S-5 was described as a black male, early 20’s, 6'0", 170lb, wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans, black shoes, a mask, and carrying a brown satchel.
 
Shoot into Occupied Vehicle – 11299 San Pablo Ave:
At 8:50 PM, an unidentified suspect pointed a handgun at the victim in the parking lot of Little Caesars after a possible road rage incident.  The victim fled southbound on San Pablo Avenue and the suspect followed.  The victim heard what he believed to be a gunshot as the vehicles traveled southbound on San Pablo Avenue at Madison Avenue, but he believed the suspect was firing into the air. 
 
As the chase continued, the victim drove past the police department, but instead of turning in to the lot, he turned southbound on Kearney Street then westbound on to Schmidt Lane where he heard another shot fired and heard a round hit the right side of his vehicle.  The chase continued on San Pablo Avenue, Central Avenue, and San Luis Avenue and another shot was fired on San Luis Avenue south of Carlson Boulevard but the vehicle was not hit.  The victim was able to make it to westbound I-80 where he finally lost his pursuer.
 
The suspect vehicle was described as a newer model grey Honda CRV, unknown plate and nothing further.  The suspect was described only as a Hispanic male with a silver semi-automatic handgun.
 
December 6th
 
Vandalism – 1800 block of Liberty St. 
At 12:50 pm, an unknown suspect shattered the rear passenger window of the victim’s vehicle with an unknown object. 
 
Grand Theft – 900 block of Arlington Blvd. 
Sometime between 12/3 and 12/4, an unknown suspect stole a package from the victim’s porch. 
 
Grand Theft – 1700 block of Julian Ct. 
Sometime between 12/4 and 12/6, an unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from the victim’s vehicle. 
 
Vehicle Theft – 800 block of Elm St:
A white 2012 Hyundai Tucson SUV was stolen by an unidentified suspect.  A neighbor reported seeing the vehicle rolling down the street approximately 1:30 this afternoon.
 
Vandalism / Brandishing – 11645 San Pablo Ave (Freeway Motel):
At 8:35 PM, a 45 year old Richmond woman, who was known to the victim, damaged the victim’s motel room door by striking the outside several times with a pick axe.  She then turned her attention to damaging the victim’s pickup truck by striking the windshield, hood and fender.  When the victim opened the motel room door to confront the suspect, she brandished the pick axe and threatened him.  The suspect then fled in an unknown direction by unknown means.
 
Vandalism / Elder Abuse / Criminal Threats / Brandishing – 1300 block of Linda Vista Dr:
At 8:50 PM, an officer reports the arrest of a 65 year old El Cerrito man after he became upset over his share of an inheritance.  The man brandished a handgun at his cousin and told him to get his 90-year-old mother out of there or he would shoot her.  The suspect fired 3 rounds into the floor to emphasize his point.  He picked up a hammer and proceeded to punch large holes in the sheetrock of nearly every wall in the house.  Emergency Protective Order granted and served. 
 
December 7th
 
Carjacking – 11600 block of San Pablo Ave. 
At 4 pm, the victim was exiting his vehicle when he was confronted by two unknown suspects.  One of the suspects was armed with a handgun.  The suspects demanded the victim’s keys and cell phone.  The victim complied and the suspects fled in the victim’s vehicle.  The vehicle was soon located by the San Francisco Police Department.  After a brief pursuit, an 18-year-old San Francisco man and a 19-year-old San Francisco man were arrested.  The men were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.  The victim’s vehicle was returned to him.    
 
December 8th
 
Warrant Arrest – Cutting Blvd. / Peerless Ave. 
An officer conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested a 26-year-old transient man for an outstanding warrant.  The man was released with a citation. 
 
Vandalism – 5600 block of San Diego St.
Sometime between 11:30 am and 2:30 pm, an unknown suspect pried open the community mailboxes but nothing was stolen. 
 
License Plate Theft – 5800 block of Central Ave. 
Sometime overnight, an unknown suspect stole both license plates from the victim’s vehicle. 
 
Shoplift / Possess Controlled Substance / Provide False Info to Police – 11545 San Pablo Ave (Ross):
At 9:20 PM, an officer was flagged down regarding an in progress shoplift, and detained a 35 year old unsheltered man as the suspect.  Ross placed the man under citizen’s arrest.  The suspect verbally identified with a slightly different name and no match could be found so he was transported to booking.   A small amount of methamphetamine was discovered during the search incident to arrest.
