The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
December 13th
Shoplifting – CVS, 670 El Cerrito Plaza.
At 11:22 am, an unknown suspect entered the business, selected two bottles of rum, and fled on foot.
Theft (License Plates) – 11545 San Pablo Ave:
The license plates were stolen from a Kia Sportage in the Ross parking lot between 6:50 and 7:50 PM.
Warrant Arrest – Eastshore Blvd / San Pablo Ave:
At 11:25 PM, an officer arrested a 38 year old Roseville man during a traffic stop when it was determined he had a $10,000 warrant for burglary out of Riverside County. The truck was registered out of Florida and the registered owner could not be contacted, so the truck was impounded per 22651(h)VC. To county jail.
December 14th
Assault, Hate Crime – Ashbury Ave. / C St.
At 7:45 am, an unknown suspect yelled racial slurs and spat at the victim. Luckily the victim was seated in his vehicle with the windows up and was not struck by spit. The victim fled the area and called police.
Criminal Threats, Shoplifting – CVS, 670 El Cerrito Plaza
At 2:45 pm, a known suspect entered the store and told the manager to shut up or the suspect would beat her up. The suspect then selected a tall bottle of beer and toilet paper before fleeing on foot. Officers located and arrested a 47-year-old El Cerrito man. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police and released with a citation.
December 15th
Providing false information to officers, Possession of a controlled substance, Possession of drug paraphernalia, Possession of burglary tools – Ohlone Greenway / Portola Dr.
At 3:57 pm, officers located a 37-year-old Richmond man climbing out of a BART construction site. The man provided several different iterations of his name. The man was arrested and searched. Officers located methamphetamine and a glass smoking pipe. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department then cited and released.
Grand Theft – 7000 El Cerrito Plaza (Daiso):
At 8:42 hours, a black electric “dirt bike” was stolen from in front of Daiso while its owner was inside the store shoplifting. As soon as he realized his bike was being stolen, he abandoned his own theft and asked the store staff to call the police for him. The stolen bike was a black Sur-Ron X Light Bee electric dirt bike worth about $4,400. The bike was missing a battery cover, and it had a RELJADOS sticker on the back and a flat rear tire.
Robbery – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky):
At 9:18 PM, an officer arrested a 36 year old Fairfield man after he failed to scan some of the items in his basket at the self-check kiosk. When the man was confronted by security, he pulled a can out of his backpack claiming it was “bear spray”, and threatened to spray the security guard. The man then fled with the unpaid cereal and milk. An officer located Culver on Brighton Avenue and Cornell Avenue in Albany and he was positively identified during an in-field show up. Booked at ECPD and transported to county where he was declined due to assorted medical issues. Released at the county hospital per 849PC.
