Be Prepared

Thursday evening will bring in freezing tempuratures for our area. We will see temps drop to around 12-15 degrees along with showers. We could see some roads freezing making traveling dangerous, especially over bridges. Fridays high will be around 26 degrees with a low around 12 degrees. The windchill for these two days could be around -8 degrees. We will not see night time temps abouve freezing till Wednesday. This is very dangerous weather and we must be prepared during this time.
we can not forget our pets!! Bailey Fire and Rescue is providing hay for animals that cant come inside. They will be at Station 1, 9022 Hwy 493, beside Bailey Post Office until 6pm tonight.
Some ways to prepare for the frigid tempuratures is:
-Minimize travel
-Stay indoors, Frostbite and Hypothermia is possible with prolonged exposure.
-Have secondary means of heat in case of a power outage.
-insulate all exposed water pipes and know how to shut the water off in the event of a busted pipe.
-Have at least 1 gallon of water, per person, per day, for a minimum of 3 days.
-Keep enough non perishable food for at least 3 days along with a manual can opener.
-A supply of batteries for radios and flashlights. Have a way to charge cell phones.
-First aid kit
Check on the elderly and make sure they have heat, food, and water.

Make sure to use layering of clothes if you have to be outside. Have a scarf to cover your face and mouth. Do not stay outside for prolonged times.
We are working with different agencies in the area to provide a warming center. We do not have everything finalized at this time, but will keep you notified of any information when we have everything together.
