Weather Information Bulletin – December 22, 2022 at 9:30 a.m.

Fair Lawn Emergency Management is monitoring a weather event that will affect our area from the afternoon of Thursday, December 22, 2022 through the evening of Friday, December 23, 2022.  Rain should begin on Thursday around midday and continue through Friday afternoon.  Average rainfall totals are expected to be 1.5 to 2 inches for the entire event.  There should be a brief period of dry weather before dark on Friday.  This should allow some drying of the roadways before the temperature plummets towards 12 degrees F on Friday evening.  The rapid drop in temperature will cause wet roadways and standing water to flash freeze.

The Passaic River will see minor flooding.  With the water level already high in some of these areas, close attention should be paid for rising waters.

Winds will ramp up Friday throughout the day to 15-20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph.  The winds may cause down tree limbs, resulting in power outages.  To report a power outage, please call PSEG directly at 1-800-436-7734.

Please continue to monitor local weather conditions, local streams, flood prone areas, and be alert for any forecast changes.  Please be sure to take appropriate mitigation actions to protect flood prone properties.
Fair Lawn Emergency Management will continue to monitor this event and issue additional bulletins, as necessary.
