High School Incident Thursday Morning

High School Incident Thursday Morning

At 7:55 am today, South Brunswick High School administrators learned of an unauthorized juvenile from a different school district in the school building. Information indicated the juvenile was looking to fight a student at the school. School administrations in conjunction with the School Resource Officer placed the school in shelter-in-place while they attempted to locate the trespasser. Additional officers responded to the high school. Officers along with school security personnel conducted a systematic search of the school. The school was placed in lockdown while the search was being conducted. Eight minutes into the search officers located the trespasser in a second-floor room hiding. The juvenile was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters. The investigation into the incident uncovered the juvenile was allowed access into the high school as a result of a current student circumventing security procedures. That juvenile also faces charges in the incident.

Chief Raymond Hayducka said, “Today’s incident was unsettling with 2,700 students and staff having to go into lockdown. We will hold those accountable who created today’s issue.  I want to thank the students who first came forward to report the suspicious activity and the quick action by the school administration along with the SRO.”

Liberty Drive Incident Wednesday Night

At 5:14 pm South Brunswick Police received a phone call indicating someone had been injured at a Liberty Drive address. The caller told dispatchers that they had hurt the other person and may harm themselves as well.  Police responded and closed off the area as they attempted to confirm the phone caller’s information. Police eventually were able to get the residents from the two homes in question to come out. All the residents were cooperative and indicated that there was no one injured at their homes. Police cleared the scene after approximately 30 minutes. The call appears to be a case of swatting and detectives are following up on leads.
