Advisory

Rain, Wind and Freezing Temperatures to impact Monroe on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

December 22, 2022   OEM Storm Message

Dear Resident,
The National Weather Service has issued an ‘Impactful Storm’ briefing statement for our area. Rain began this morning and will continue through midday tomorrow. The rain may be heavy at times. Winds will increase overnight tonight with gusts as high as 40-50mph possible Friday as a cold front passes through New Jersey. Please secure all outside decor and trash receptacles.

A sharp drop in temperature and dangerously cold wind chills will develop for Friday afternoon into Saturday evening that may lead to a flash freeze conditions on wet surfaces such as roads, driveways and sidewalks.

Wet ground and high winds can lead to downed trees and power outages.  Monroe Twp has been in contact with JCP&L and confirmed that it is prepared to activate its storm response plans.   In the event outages occur due to severe weather, report your outage by calling 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877), clicking the “Report Outage” link on www.firstenergycorp.com, or by texting ‘out’ to 544487.    Reporting outages to JCP&L ensures that you receive updates and estimated restoration times for your home which may be on a different circuit than your neighbor.

Please take a moment now to review NJ OEM winter safety tips to protect your family and winterize your home.  In advance of the storm:
  • Keep all personal electronics and backup batteries charged.
  • Gather flashlights and batteries.
  • Review the steps to plan and prepare for an outage at http://ready.nj.gov/plan-prepare/power-outages.shtml
  • Please assist us in keeping sewer drains on or near your property clear and free from leaves, trash and other debris. Clean drains allow water to run freely, prevents flooding and reduces the possibility for frozen standing water.
  • Use caution when driving, beware of icy conditions.
  • Take care of all outdoor animals.  The wind chill conditions are dangerous for animals too. Provide warm shelter and insure they have a dry place to sleep.
Please keep a close watch on the weather especially if you are planning on travelling this holiday weekend.  We will update you as necessary.
