Christopher Miller Open Records Request and Investigation

The Janesville Police Department has recently received several open records requests and inquiries for information related to missing person Christopher Miller.  A Facebook post, alleging the police department was withholding information, instructed people to flood the Janesville Police Department with open records requests.

When searching our records for the name Christopher Miller, no records have been located.  However, searching the date of the incident, a minor incident report was located in which the City of Janesville and the Rock County Sheriff’s department were advised State Patrol was in a pursuit with a vehicle and were requesting mutual aid.  An officer was assigned to the pursuit but the pursuit left the city prior to any Janesville officers becoming involved.  The Janesville Police Department was told to disregard the pursuit because it had left the city limits.  An officer was later assigned to a hit and run accident related to the pursuit.  The suspect vehicle struck a traffic pole in the City of Janesville before getting back on the interstate and fleeing South on I-39/I-90 and out of the City limits.

When the suspect vehicle finally stopped and the driver fled, the Janesville officer responded to that location (outside the city limits) to only take photos of the suspect vehicle damage for the accident report. This concluded our involvement in this incident.  At the time, Christopher Miller was not known to be the suspected driver; and therefore, his name was not entered into the reports.  This is the only involvement the Janesville Police Department has had in this incident.
