Advisory

Update: Winter Weather, Earlier Waste Pickup

The latest forecasts indicate that snow will continue to impact Burr Ridge this afternoon, with the heaviest snowfall lasting until 11 PM. Snow will taper off to just scattered flurries overnight. Northwest winds this evening will gust 25-35 mph and continue to increase later tonight, especially after midnight and into daybreak Friday, with gusts of 45-55 mph. Significant blowing and drifting snow and below-zero temperatures will continue to create treacherous conditions and impact roadways through Saturday.

Our Public Works Department will continuously plow and treat the roadways until all are passable. Gusty winds, drifting snow, and below-zero temperatures will inhibit our ability to clear roads. Therefore, expect some snow-covered streets on Christmas Eve and Christmas.

The Burr Ridge Police Department reminds everyone that on-street parking is prohibited during this time. Vehicles should be parked in garages or driveways – and locked – until the roadways are clear. Please remind visitors, service providers, and contractors to keep their vehicles off the streets.

Groot waste pickup on Friday will start earlier, at 6:00 am. For areas north of 79th Street, place your Groot waste receptacles by the street before 6:00 am Friday. Residents can check the company’s website at www.groot.com or download the Groot App to stay informed of other scheduling changes. Please remove your waste containers promptly after pickup to keep them from blowing into snowy streets.

Village Hall will close at 2:30 pm on Friday, and all Village offices will remain closed on Monday, December 26. Emergency services will continue to be available.

Bitterly cold wind chills are expected to continue through the holiday weekend, posing a threat of frostbite and hypothermia. Take precautions and kindly assist your neighbors who may need help clearing snow from their driveways, sidewalks, mailboxes, and fire hydrants. Please refrain from blowing, shoveling, or plowing snow onto the roadway.

If you need medical assistance or have an emergency, call 9-1-1. To report a damaged mailbox, please call 630-654-8181. Damaged mailboxes will be addressed after our Public Works crews complete the snow and ice control operations. Please continue to monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local news broadcasts for timely information from the National Weather Service.
