INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
LOCATION: Twentynine Palms Highway (SR-62) and Hanford Avenue, Yucca Valley
IVOLVED PARTY(S): Name withheld (pending next of kin notification), 50-year-old, Joshua Tree resident
Jeremy McCool, 29-year-old, Twentynine Palms resident
SUMMARY: On Thursday, December 22, 2022, at about 5:09 p.m., deputies from the Morongo Basin Station responded to the intersection of Twentynine Palms Highway and Hanford Avenue for the report of an unknown injury traffic collision.
Deputies discovered a white Kawasaki motorcycle was ridden eastbound in the number one lane of Twentynine Palms Highway, approaching Hanford Avenue. A grey Toyota Corolla, driven by McCool, was also traveling east on Twentynine Palms Highway.
Based on driver and witness statements, it appears traffic was stopped on Twentynine Palms Highway and the motorcyclist failed to see traffic ahead of him. The motorcyclist applied his brakes and skidded a short distance before laying his motorcycle down and colliding into the rear of McCool's vehicle.
As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist was transported by San Bernardino County Fire to Hi-Desert Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries. His identification is being withheld pending next of kin notification. McCool was not injured.
It does not appear alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision.
