MERIDIAN MAN ARRESTED AFTER ATTACK ON OFFICER
MERIDIAN- While most Meridian families were home enjoying their Christmas Eve, Meridian Police were out serving the community. One Meridian officer is extremely lucky after being attacked when he responded to a domestic disturbance in the 100 block of Washakie Street, Meridian, Idaho. The officer arrived on scene at approximately 9:00 p.m. and began dealing with a sixty-two (62) year old female who had a cut on her forehead and had been battered by a thirty-one (31) year old relative, Trevor DYER. As the officer was talking with the female, he was attacked by DYER.

The officer deployed his taser with zero effect and DYER eventually ended up on top of the officer where he continued to punch the officer in the face. The officer was eventually able to get DYER to get off of him and DYER retreated to a bathroom as the back-up officer arrived.  Both officers attempted to get DYER to surrender, but DYER chose to re-engage the officers and fight. One officer was able to apply a carotid neck restraint on DYER rendering him unconscious, thus allowing the officers to take him into custody.

Further investigation revealed DYER had beaten a fifty-eight (58) year old resident unconscious prior to officer’s arrival.

The two (2) original victims of DYER were treated for their injuries and released. The first responding officer was transported to St. Alphonsus Hospital, Boise, where he was treated for serious facial, tissue injuries. The officer is home resting and recovering with his family. The officer is fifty-one (51) years old and has been an officer for twenty-seven (27) years.

DYER was booked into the Ada County Jail on three (3) counts of felony Aggravated Battery and one (1) count of misdemeanor Resist and Obstruct.

We are extremely thankful our officer was not more seriously injured.  We are extremely proud of how our officers responded to this call and the restraint they demonstrated. This is just another reminder of the things our officers in this community face on a daily basis, while serving our community with the utmost professionalism.
