On Monday, December 26, 2022, at 3:06 am, Middleton Police Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Park Street and Woodgate Road for a report of a single-vehicle accident.  When officers arrived on the scene, they found the vehicle unoccupied and immediately began checking the area for the driver.  A short time later, a witness to the accident called 911 and provided a detailed description of the driver. 

Officers located a male matching the suspect's description walking southbound on North Gammon Road.  Officers later identified the male as William Karow, 42 years old, of Madison, and the registered owner of the involved vehicle.  Officers determined that Karow was driving before their contact with him.  Officers noted that Karow had a strong odor of intoxicants coming from his person.

Karow submitted to field sobriety testing and was subsequently arrested for 4th offense operating while under the influence (OWI).  Karow submitted to a chemical test of his breath, which indicated his blood-alcohol level was .19.  The legal limit in Wisconsin is .08.

Karow was transported to the Dane County Jail and booked on the tentative 4th offense OWI, 4th offense PAC, hit and run, failure to keep the vehicle under control, and disorderly conduct.
