The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from December 19th to December 22nd, 2022.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
 
December 19th
 
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 5400 block of Macdonald Ave.
At 0720 hours, an officer recovered a Nissan Pathfinder that had been reported stolen to Alameda County Sheriff’s Office on 12/18. 

Grand Theft – 7300 block of Blake St. 
Sometime overnight, an unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from the victim’s vehicle.

Attempted Vehicle Theft – 700 block of Liberty St. 
Sometime overnight, an unknown suspect entered the victim’s 2010 Hyundai Tucson by smashing a window.  Once inside, the suspect tore apart the steering column in an attempt to steal the vehicle.  
 
Grand Theft – 500 El Cerrito Plaza
Between 12/15/22 and 12/16/22, an unknown suspect entered the mail room of the apartment complex and stole two packages. 

Attempted Vehicle Theft – 500 block of Albemarle St. 
Sometime overnight, an unknown suspect entered the victim’s 2013 Kia Sorrento by smashing a window.  Once inside, the suspect tore apart the steering column in an attempt to steal the vehicle. 
 
Attempted Vehicle Theft – 10600 block of San Pablo Ave. 
Sometime overnight, an unknown suspect entered the victim’s 2012 Hyundai Elantra by smashing a window.  Once inside, the suspect tore apart the steering column in an attempt to steal the vehicle. 

Vandalism – 100 block of Carmel Ave. 
An officer reports that a victim became involved in a road rage argument with an unknown suspect.  During the argument, the suspect kicked the victim’s right front wheel well, causing a large dent. 

Shoplift / Possess Drug Paraphernalia – 10794 San Pablo Ave (Marshall’s):
At 6:54 PM, an officer was flagged down by Marshall’s staff regarding a shoplift.  He accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 26-year-old San Francisco man for theft of $272 worth of clothing.  Drug paraphernalia was discovered incident to arrest.  Field cited.
 
December 20th
 
Vehicle Theft – 6400 block of Portola Dr. 
Sometime between the 18th and 19th, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 2016 Hyundai Tucson.

Theft by False Pretenses – 500 El Cerrito Plaza
An officer reports that the victim was contacted via text by an unknown number.  The victim began a conversation with the unknown suspect and a romance developed.  The suspect was able to convince the victim to send money via Apple Pay and gift cards. 
 
December 21st
 
Vehicle Theft – 400 block of Richmond St. 
Sometime overnight, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 1995 Toyota Tacoma.  

Vandalism 9900 block of San Pablo Ave.
Sometime overnight, an unknown suspect slashed several tires and broke rear view mirrors of two company owned pickup trucks. 
 
Warrant Arrest – 800 block of Arlington Blvd. 
An officer was dispatched to a loud music call in the area and contacted the subject, a 50-year-old El Cerrito man.  The officer found the man had a citable warrant for his arrest.  The officer cited the man and provided him with a new court date. 

Recovered Stolen Vehicle, Recovered Stolen License Plate – 1100 block of Ivy Ct. 
An officer noticed a Jeep Cherokee parked in the driveway of a residence.  The officer conducted a check of the license plate number and learned the license plate had been reported stolen to Richmond PD on the 20th.  A subsequent records check of the VIN on the Jeep revealed it had been reported stolen to Walnut Creek PD on the 20th.  The vehicle was removed from the driveway and returned to the owner. 

Residential Burglary – 1000 block of Leneve Pl. 
Sometime between the 18th and the 21st, an unknown suspect entered the residence (currently staged for sale) and stole miscellaneous bedding and bath items.

Vehicle Theft – San Mateo St / Central Ave:
A 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander was stolen from the street sometime between the 19th and the 21st.

December 22nd
Identity Theft – 11780 San Pablo Ave:
At 7:47 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect wrote checks on the victim’s bank account totaling a loss of over $80,000.
