City Thanks Detective Christopher Buescher for Over 29 Years of Service

On Friday, December 30, 2022, Detective Christopher Buescher will retire from the Janesville Police Department (JPD) after over 29 years of service to the City of Janesville.

A Watertown Senior High School graduate, Detective Buescher received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Carroll College in Waukesha. He credits an interest in government and law enforcement while a student at Carroll for bringing him to a career in public service.

Detective Buescher joined the JPD as a Patrol Officer in September 1993. Throughout his time with the department, he held many positions and assignments, including working as a Patrol Officer on first, second, and third shifts before joining the Detective Bureau in 2008. He served as a Bike Officer for 19 years and was a member of the Special Operations Unit and Janesville Narcotics Enforcement Team.

A veteran member of the JPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, Detective Buescher spent 15 years responding to high-risk incidents in our community. In his time with the SWAT Team, Detective Buescher held the positions of Operator, Assistant Team Leader, Team Leader, and Assistant Commander. He also served as a Field Training Officer, mentoring new officers.

When asked what he enjoyed most about his career, Detective Buescher expressed an appreciation of the camaraderie he enjoyed with my coworkers. “I want to thank my family, friends, coworkers, both retired and active, the dispatchers and other first responders, and the City employees I’ve worked with over the years for their support and guidance,” he added.

Detective Buescher expressed a great appreciation for the community when discussing his career, acknowledging the importance of their support. “I’d like to thank the citizens of Janesville for supporting their police department, it was an honor to serve you,” he shared. “Even though in some parts of the country law enforcement has received less than favorable support. I never felt that here.”

In his well-deserved retirement, Chris looks forward to spending time with his family and plans to stay busy working full-time for a local business. And while he will miss many aspects of his law enforcement service, he shared he would not miss the late-night call-ins to work that accompanied his role in the Detective Bureau.

To his coworkers, Detective Buescher wished "all new and current officers a fulfilling and successful career." He added a bit of advice, advising them to enjoy their time off as life is often too short, before closing with a sincere "thanks for the memories."

The City of Janesville would like to thank Detective Christopher Buescher for over 29 years of dedicated service to his community, the Janesville Police Department, and the City of Janesville.
