Narrative: The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Fillmore Search and Rescue (SAR) Team has been proudly serving Ventura County since 1948. The Fillmore SAR Team embodies the phrase “So Others May Live.” Each year, the Fillmore SAR Team goes beyond saving lives and impacts the Fillmore community through financial giving and by donating their time at community events. This year, the Fillmore SAR Team decided they wanted to directly and specifically impact families and children in need. Fillmore SAR Team members reached out to members of the Fillmore community to identify children and families who had specific needs during this holiday season.
After identifying these needs, the Fillmore SAR Team purchased gifts to meet the needs of these families and their children. On 12/23/22, the Fillmore SAR Team delivered the gifts to families and children in Fillmore. 11 families and 28 children received gifts and time well spent with the Fillmore SAR Team.
The Fillmore SAR Team is comprised of highly skilled volunteers who are available to respond to wilderness emergencies throughout Ventura County and the State of California. The team is trained to use specialized equipment to handle a variety of emergencies such as high-angle rock rescues, vehicle-over-the-side accidents, swift-water rescues, and other wilderness medical emergencies. The team is also highly proficient in search operations for overdue hikers, mountain bikers, off-highway vehicles, and missing persons or lost hunters.
