News Release: Storm Causes Localized Flooding In Walnut Creek

NEWS RELEASE: Storm continues to cause localized flooding in Walnut Creek

Residents urged to stay at home and off the roads

The much-needed rain is causing local creeks to rise and some roadways are not drivable at this point. The City of Walnut Creek’s Public Works crews have been operating since mid-morning, and the City Manager has opened the Emergency Operations Center as a precaution shortly before 2:00 p.m.

For residents, sandbags are available at 5 locations throughout the City:

  • Lancaster Road near Orchard Lane
  • Heather Farm Park Community Center parking lot (north end)
  • Larkey Park parking lot
  • Howe Homestead Park parking lot
  • Rudgear Park parking lot

Sand and bags are provided onsite, but please bring your own shovel.  More information can be found on the City’s flood preparedness website.

Preparation in advance of the storm by the City’s Public Works crews have made this storm event less damaging than it could have been, and crews are in the field now to monitor any significant impacts.  The City’s Police Department is also fully staffed today to assist with any emergency needs.
