Advisory

Flash Flood Watch/High Wind Warning

A “Flash Flood Watch” and “High Wind Warning” have been issued by the U.S. National Weather Service for parts of Santa Clara County beginning tomorrow. Heavy rain is expected including wind gusts of 20 – 30 mph, with localized gusts up to 50/60 mph.

Be aware that flash flooding can occur. If a flood is imminent, avoid low-lying areas and seek shelter in the highest area possible. DO NOT attempt to drive into flooded areas. If floodwaters rise around your car, abandon the car, and move to higher ground. A foot of water will cause many vehicles to float. Two feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles, including SUVs and pick-ups.

The high winds may cause trees or brush to fall onto roadways and/or traffic signals to go out. If a traffic signal light is not working, proceed cautiously as if the intersection is controlled by “STOP” signs in all directions. At a 4-way stop, if 2 vehicles reach the intersection simultaneously the vehicle on the left must yield the right-of-way to the one on the right. Drive extra carefully and do not speed. Keep a safe following distance from cars in front of you. Set aside all distractions and drive safe.
