The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from December 30th 2022 to January 1st 2023.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
 
December 30th

Robbery/Warrant Arrest/Violation of a Court Order/Convicted Felon in possession of a Stun Gun – Marshall’s 10759 San Pablo Ave.  
At approximately 4:26pm officers responded to robbery that just occurred inside the store. A 39 year old female from El Sobrante, and a 24 year old female from San Jose, stole over $400.00 worth of items from the store and threatened an employee with a stun gun as they exited. The two suspects were detained walking southbound San Pablo Ave at Waldo Ave.  The victim positively identified the suspects during an infield show-up.

The first suspect had a no bail warrant from the Richmond Police Department for Domestic Violence and Assault with a Deadly Weapon, was in violation of a Court Order, and was on probation for False Identification to a police officer.

The second suspect is on parole for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, had a Probation Violation Warrant from the Santa Clara Sheriff’s Office, and had a Parole Warrant from the California Department of Corrections.

The suspects were arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Burglary – 710 El Cerrito Plaza (Albany Music School);
At 6:28 pm an officer was sent to the report that the business had been burglarized sometime in the previous three days. 
 
December 31st
Warrant Arrest/Probation Violation/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – 2000 block of Key Blvd.
At approximately 8:32am officers responded to a male jumping backyard fences northbound on Key Blvd.  Officers located the 40 year old male from Richmond, standing in a carport garage.    The male had a Burglary warrant from the El Cerrito Police Department, he was on Felony Probation for Burglary, and was in possession of a methamphetamine pipe.  The male was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Attempted Residential Burglary – 6600 block of Gatto Ave.
At approximately 9:00am the victim was inside their residence, when they heard their kitchen window screen being removed.  The victim looked out his window and saw the suspect removing the window screen. The suspect fled the area.  The victim contacted the police one hour after the incident. 

The suspect was described as a white male adult, 40-45 years old, 5’8”, medium build, with a beard, wearing a green/blue jacket with a hood. 

Battery – Safeway 11450 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 10:00am, the victims were standing in line behind the suspect at the cash register.  The suspect told them to go to another line.  The victims were confused, so the suspect yelled at them, spat at them and threw coins at them.  The victims called the police 2-3 hours after the incident.

The suspect is described as a black male adult, 30-40 years old, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and black pants.  

Burglary – 6200 block of Cypress Avenue;
At 10:34 pm an officer was sent to the report that the victim’s home was burglarized sometime in the previous few hours.   
 
January 1st

Residential Burglary – 400 block Lexington Ave.
At approximately 9:13am an unknown suspect opened the unlocked front door to a residence and stole the victim’s purse that was lying on the couch.  Through video surveillance, the suspect was described as a white female adult, 5’3”, 200lbs., 40-50 years old, wearing a black jacket and carrying a black backpack.  The suspect was last seen walking westbound on Fairmount Ave.   

D.U.I – 1400 block of Elm St.
At approximately 1:47pm a 38 year old male from Richmond sideswiped another vehicle while driving northbound on Elm St.  The male was found to be under the influence of alcohol and had an open bottle of Tequila in his cup holder.  The male was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, given a citation for his crimes and released to his girlfriend.
