Crime Alert Bulletin Covering the Weeks of December 19, 2022-January 1, 2023

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.  
 
 
Robberies
 
There were seven robberies during the past two weeks.
 
On Wednesday, 12-21-22, at approximately 10:15 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Irvington Street on a report of a robbery. The victim said that he arranged to purchase four pairs of shoes for $380 on the “OfferUp” application. The suspects arrived in a white Mitsubishi Eclipse. The main suspect came out of the vehicle and opened the trunk of the car to initiate the sale. After the victim handed over the $380, the suspect pushed the victim to the ground and left in the vehicle. The victim suffered abrasions to his left elbow and left wrist. The suspect was described as a 20-30 year old White male wearing a ski mask, black hoodie, and black pants. The driver of the vehicle was described as a Hispanic female wearing a white tank top. There was also a Hispanic female sitting in the rear seat and two additional suspects in the vehicle. This investigation is continuing.
 
On Thursday, 12-22-22, at approximately 12:49 p.m., Officer Mendiara was dispatched to Macy’s on a report of a shoplifter. An asset protection employee stated that he observed a suspect enter the store, conceal four jackets valued at approximately $790 into a bag, and leave the store without paying. When asset protection staff asked the suspect to go to the security office, the suspect attempted to walk away. Eventually, loss prevention staff brought the suspect into their security office, where they located four jackets in the bag. The suspect, a 23-year-old Rancho Mirage resident, was arrested and booked into jail for robbery.
 
On Wednesday, 12-28-22, at approximately 2:32 p.m., officers were dispatched to the unit block of Hampshire Avenue on a report of a robbery at gunpoint. The victims said they were returning home from a trip and unloading their vehicle. A victim stated he observed a silver vehicle double parked across the street. The vehicle then drove past southbound on Hampshire Avenue and then double parked alongside the victim’s vehicle. One of the suspects struck the victim in the head with the rifle stock and took the victim’s gold Rolex watch, valued at approximately $5,000. The victim’s daughter said another suspect wearing a black hoodie and mask, opened the rear passenger door and took her purse. The purse and contents were valued at approximately $680. The victim’s wife said another suspect had taken her backpack. The backpack and its contents were valued at approximately $2,420. All the suspects fled in the vehicle. This investigation is continuing.
 
On Wednesday, 12-28-22, at approximately 5:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to Nordstrom Rack on a report of a shoplifter. A loss prevention officer said he observed a female and a male enter the store. Both subjects grabbed a bag and filled the bags with clothing and other miscellaneous merchandise. Both subjects made their way to the emergency exit toward the rear of the store. As loss prevention tried to stop both subjects, the male suspect dropped his bag of merchandise, pushed the loss prevention officer, exited the store, entered a Subaru Outback, and fled north in the parking lot. This suspect was described as a Hispanic male, approximately 25 years of age, 5’7” tall, 120 pounds, and wearing a blue beanie with a gray Cowboys sweater. During this time, the loss prevention officer had a hold of the female suspect. The female suspect pushed the loss prevention officer several times and was able to exit the store with the bag of stolen merchandise valued at approximately $950. The female suspect also attempted to pepper spray the loss prevention officer. Another loss prevention officer arrived and was able to assist and detain the female suspect. The female suspect, a 37-year-old San Francisco resident, was arrested and booked into jail for robbery and an outstanding warrant.
 
On Friday, 12/30/22, at approximately 3:56 p.m., a robbery occurred in the area of Serramonte Boulevard and Gellert Boulevard. Officers arrived on the scene and apprehended the suspects shortly after. Arrested was a 15-year-old female juvenile, out of San Francisco, who was in possession of a stun gun, and a 19-year-old male, out of San Francisco, who was in possession of a loaded firearm. The 15-year-old juvenile was booked into the San Mateo County Youth Services Center and the 19-year-old male was booked into the San Mateo County Jail. The victims were not injured during this incident.
 
On Saturday, 12-31-22, at approximately 10:40 a.m., officers were dispatched to Cigarettes Cheaper on Mission Street on a report of an alarm. An employee stated a suspect came into the store and was asking customers to buy him “Black and Mild’s.” The store employee asked the suspect to leave several times. The suspect continued to ask customers for money and eventually got $2. When the suspect was refused service, the suspect said, “Imma kill you b*tch” and “F**k you b*tch.” The suspect grabbed “Black and Mild’s” cigarettes, a struggle ensued, and the suspect left the store with approximately $3 worth of “Black and Mild’s” cigarettes. A while later, officers located the suspect at the Daly City BART station. The suspect, a 37-year-old San Leandro resident, was arrested and eventually booked into the main jail for robbery and another offense.
 
On Sunday, 01-01-23, at approximately 1:01 p.m., officers were dispatched to Ross at the Serramonte Shopping Center on a report of a possible strong-arm robbery. A suspect had entered Ross and stole a bag valued at approximately $35 and then went into buybuy BABY and stole a diaper bag containing lotion and bath salts valued at approximately $275. When a Ross employee told the suspect she could not conceal a pair of shoes in the bag, the suspect stated, “I’m gonna f**k you” and “Don’t touch me.” This suspect had a companion with her that was still inside Ross. Eventually, both subjects were found on the bus. The suspect, a 29-year-old San Francisco resident, was arrested and booked into jail for robbery and burglary. The companion, a 35-year-old San Francisco resident, was cited for possession of a controlled substance.
 
 
Residential Burglaries
 
There was one residential burglary during the past two weeks.
 
On Thursday, 12-29-22, at approximately 1:31 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Evergreen Avenue on a report of a neighbor trying to break down the door of another apartment. The victim said she heard a loud bang from her front door. The victim’s boyfriend went to open the door, and the suspect began to argue with the boyfriend. The suspect’s cousin, who lives in the apartment downstairs, pulled the suspect away. A few moments later, both subjects returned and banged on the front door. The victim went into the living room and heard a loud bang and glassware shatter. The front door was kicked in and glassware was broken. The suspect broke into the apartment; therefore, the victim’s boyfriend yelled at the suspect to get out. The suspect’s cousin pulled the suspect out of the apartment, and both subjects went downstairs. Officers arrived and asked the subjects, who were continuously walking back and forth in an alleyway within the apartment complex, to open the door. At one point, one of the subjects advised that they would not open the door and went behind a second door and closed it. Officers gained access to the apartment building and arrested both the suspect and the cousin. The suspect, a 33-year-old San Francisco resident, was arrested and booked into jail for burglary, vandalism, and obstructing arrest. The cousin, a 27-year-old Daly City resident, was arrested and booked into jail for obstructing arrest.
 
 
Commercial Burglaries
 
There were three commercial burglaries and one attempted commercial burglary during the past two weeks.
 
Between Friday, 12-23-22, at midnight, and Friday, 12-30-22, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a suspect entered SOMA AEC Incorporated by climbing through a window. The suspect stole two laptops valued at approximately $800.
 
On Wednesday, 12-28-22, at approximately 12:20 p.m., an unknown suspect broke into a locker in the men’s locker room at the 24-Hour Fitness facility. The suspect stole clothes, a cell phone, car keys, and a wallet containing credit cards, a driver’s license, a Merchant Marine ID, and $120. The suspect charged approximately $400 with the victim’s credit card. This investigation is continuing.
 
On Sunday, 01-01-23, at approximately 1:01 p.m., officers were dispatched to Ross at the Serramonte Shopping Center on a report of a possible strong-arm robbery. **This is the same incident referenced above in the Robbery section.
 
On Thursday, 12-29-22, at approximately 1:52 p.m., officers were dispatched to Megabud on a report of a possible burglary that occurred between 3:45 a.m. to 4:15 a.m. The store manager stated that a group of suspects pried open the back door with a crowbar but were unable to enter the business. This investigation is continuing.
 
 
Vehicle Burglaries   
 
There were four vehicle burglaries reported during the past two weeks.
 

  • 400 block of Lake Merced Boulevard—a lunch bag containing a wallet with a driver’s license and two VISA cards was taken from a 2015 Toyota Highlander. The right rear passenger window was shattered. Occurred on 12-19-22 between 5:30 p.m. and 5:55 p.m.
 
  • 200 block of San Pedro Road—nothing was taken from a 2001 Audi. The rear windshield and driver’s side window were broken. Occurred on 12-25-22 at approximately 11:38 p.m.
 
  • 100 block of 1st Avenue—unsure if anything was taken from a 2007 Honda Pilot. The left rear passenger side window was broken. Occurred between 10:00 p.m. on 12-27-22 and 9:00 a.m. on 12-28-22. **Online report.
 
  • 100 block of Coronado Avenue—mail, vehicle registration, insurance information, owner’s manual, and other items were taken from a 1995 Honda Civic. The vehicle was ransacked. Occurred on 12-31-22 between 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. **Online report. 
 
 
Stolen Vehicles  
 
There were five vehicles stolen and one attempted stolen vehicle during the past two weeks. Three vehicles were recovered.
 
  • 200 block of Westlake Avenue—a 2001 GMC Sierra. Occurred on 12-21-22 between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. **Recovered by Oakland PD on 12-22-22.
 
  • Unit block of Oaklawn Drive—a 2000 Ford F250. Occurred on 12-21-22 at approximately 8:30 a.m. **Recovered by DCPD on 01-02-23 with the catalytic converter stolen.
 
  • Unit block of Southridge Way—a 1996 Honda Accord. Occurred on 12-26-22 at approximately 9:05 p.m.
 
  • Westlake Shopping Center—a 2017 Dodge Challenger. Occurred on 12-27-22 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. **Recovered by SFPD on 12-28-22.
 
  • Santa Paula Drive and Eastmoor Avenue—a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe. Occurred between 3:00 p.m. on 12-29-22 and 5:00 p.m. on 12-31-22.
 
  • Unit block of Wellington Avenue—an attempted theft of a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. Occurred between 11:00 p.m. on 12-20-22 and 10:00 a.m. on 12-22-22.
 
 
Miscellaneous (Two Weeks)
 
  • There were 292 cases taken.
 
  • There were 24 domestic disturbance cases reported.
 
  • There were 13 cases involving an involuntary psychiatric hold.
 
  • There were 11 malicious mischief/vandalism cases reported.
 
  • There were 6 cases for public intoxication.
 
  • There were 6 hit-and-run collisions reported.
 
  • There were 18 narcotics-related cases taken.

Daly City Public Library Associates Youth Poet Laureate Program
 
The Daly City Public Library Associates (DCPLA) is calling all teen poets to win a chance to represent Daly City as the 2023-24 Daly City Youth Poet Laureate. DCPLA is proud to announce the launch of the 2023-24 Daly City Youth Poet Laureate program, in partnership with the National Youth Poet Laureate Program, Urban Word, and Daly City Public Library. The program celebrates teen poets who live or attend school in Daly City and exhibit a commitment to artistic excellence, civic engagement, leadership, and social justice. The Youth Poet Laureate receives: $5,000 honorarium, VIP status to represent Daly City at community events between May 2023 and May 2024, and publication of 5 of poems in the National Poet Laureate annual anthology by Penmanship Books. Applicants must meet the following criteria: reside OR attend school in Daly City, be between the ages of 13 and 18 years old by the application deadline, serve as Laureate for the program year, May 2023-May 2024.
