Police Seek Public’s Help Locating Irvington Man Wanted for Questioning in a Robbery

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé requests the public’s help with locating Eric Smith, 51, of Irvington, who is wanted for questioning in connection with a strong-arm robbery on December 11, 2022.

Police responded to a call about the robbery that occurred downtown Newark at approximately 1:40 p.m. at Broad Street and Lincoln Park. The victim was walking southbound on Broad Street when three Hispanic males exited a tan-colored sedan at Lincoln Park and attacked him. The suspects punched the victim in the face, causing him to fall to the ground where he surrendered a fanny pack that had his wallet and personal belongings. One of the men grabbed the bag and all of them got back in the sedan and fled southbound on Broad Street.

Smith is 5'7" inches tall and 210 pounds with brown eyes, black hair, and a black complexion.

Director Fragé urges anyone with information about the suspects to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-
