COUNTY TO OPEN WARMING CENTER AT SAN ANDREAS LIBRARY AND COUNTY AND CITY CONTINUE SEEKING BUSINESS AND RESIDENT STORM/FLOOD DAMAGE INFORMATION

The County announced today that they will be staffing a warming center at the San Andreas Library located at 1299 Gold Hunter Rd., San Andreas CA.  The center will be open from 9AM to 5PM beginning Saturday January 7, 2023 through Tuesday January 10, 2023.  The Arnold and Murphys branch libraries will be open from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Each library site within the county has Wi-Fi internet available 24/7, as well as public computers and patron services during open hours. For more information, please visit their website at https://library.calaverasgov.us/.  Additionally, Home Connectivity Kits which include a Chrome Book and hot spot are available for check out as well as books, DVDs, Audiobook CDs, and music. Library staff can also assist citizens with reporting damages caused by the 2022/23 winter storms.

The County and the City are continuing work on gathering information on damages to businesses and residents as a result of the storms and flooding.  It is extremely important that owners or renters of residential and commercial properties document and report what damages and costs they have incurred.  This will allow the County and City to determine whether they meet the Small Business Administration (SBA) criteria for assistance.  A declaration by the SBA could bring in low interest disaster loan program to the County/City.  Online damage assessment reporting is presented below.

The County’s on online storm damage information portal and fillable forms are located at:

Note: Please contact the Community Information number at 209-754-2855 if you do not have internet access.  Additionally, homes and businesses can include renters and home based businesses; a rental property can be counted as a business and as a renter; when assessing apartments, each unit with at least 40 percent of uninsured personal property losses will be counted as one.

Remember that residents of Calaveras County could possibly qualify for assessed tax value relief due to calamity damage caused by storm damage and flooding.  Please contact the Calaveras County Assessor’s Office at 209-754-6356 for more information.
