Advisory

STORM ALERT UPDATE AS OF JANUARY 8 AT 4:30 PM

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ADVISORY FOR SF BAY AREA

The National Weather Service has announced that the next Atmospheric River is set to arrive late tonight (Sunday, 1/8). The first wave of rain is expected to begin at approximately 8 PM and continue into Monday (1/9) at 10 AM. Further rain is expected to continue Monday night into Tuesday (1/10) morning, with a chance of post-frontal thunderstorms expected on Tuesday.

A high wind warning will be in effect beginning tonight (Sunday) at 8 PM through Monday morning.

A flood watch is in effect through Tuesday, January 10.

With this continuing rain and gusting winds, we will continue to see widespread and multiple impacts due to moderate-to-heavy rain, flooding, and strong winds, which could threaten lives and property over the next several days. Rain rates will exacerbate flooding concerns. Given the saturated soils and recent rains, we can expect rapid responses on all streams and creeks, with quick rises on the mainstem rivers, resulting in possible widespread flooding.

LOS ALTOS CREEK ADVISORIES REMAIN IN EFFECT

The boardwalk at the Redwood Grove Nature Preserve that crosses Adobe Creek will remain closed as we experience heavy rainfall. Residents are advised to avoid all area creeks and streams, including Adobe Creek, Stevens Creek, Permanente Creek, and Hale Creek, as the water levels are high and there are fast-moving currents. These currents are visible to the eye and also flowing deceptively fast underneath the surface: do not approach any creek at this time. With rain expected to continue through next week, there is a possibility of local flooding.
