The Janesville Police Department awarded a Letter of Commendation.
This award is given by the Chief of Police to any employee who performs a particularly noteworthy act of service. The action of the employee must be beyond the normal expectation of duty and based upon a determined and intelligent performance. Officer Joshua Johnson received a Letter of Commendation for his actions listed below.
On December 16, 2022 at 1:14 PM, Janesville Police Officers and the Janesville Fire Department were dispatched to an address on Hawaii Dr in the City of Janesville for a residential fire. When Officer Johnson arrived, he approached the residence and was met with heavy flames and smoke which prevented him from entering. He spoke with a witness who confirmed that the two females inside had not exited and were still trapped inside. Officer Johnson relayed this information to arriving fire department personnel.
When the Janesville Fire Department engine crew arrived, two of the three personnel made entry to the residence. The engine driver/operator, who was alone, began getting a hose out and Officer Johnson asked if he needed help. Together, the two of them laid out a line, charged it, and started water application to help knock down the flames. This process is especially difficult and time consuming for one person to do alone, but together their teamwork got it done within one minute.
Officer Johnson's actions were complimented by the Janesville Fire Department as these actions aided in not only trying to save the victims, but helped protect the fire personnel who had entered a very intense fire.
Officer Johnson's performance and dedication are deeply appreciated and respected by the police department and the Janesville community. His dedicated efforts have a direct relationship to the level of safety in the City of Janesville. Officer Johnson strongly supports the mission of the Janesville Police Department.
