Winter storm continues Monday through Tuesday this week.
Prepare & Stay Safe During the Storm
- Check drain inlets and facilities located on your property to ensure that they are unobstructed and free flowing.
- Charge your phone.
- Prepare an emergency kit with flashlights and prescriptions.
- Avoid unnecessary travel. Strong winds and wet roads make travel risky. Staying home is the safest option until the storm passes. If it is an emergency, allow emergency responders to come to you.
- Use extra caution when driving. If you MUST leave your home, drive carefully: slow down, keep both hands on the steering wheel, turn on headlights, allow extra space between vehicles, and watch for downed branches, trees and powerlines. Allow extra time in case of detours away from flooded roadways.
- Do not walk or drive around barricades or through standing water. Turn around, do not drown. If it is an emergency, allow emergency responders to come to you.
- Stay away from downed power lines. Always assume a fallen powerline is live and do not touch it with your hand or another object. Call 9-1-1 immediately to report the fallen line.
Sandbags
Sandbags continue to be a good option for your home or business if you anticipate flooding from the storm. Supplies have been restocked throughout the City, and will continue to be checked and replenished through the day. You will need to bring a shovel, but the sand and bags are free.
For residents, sandbags are available at 5 locations in Walnut Creek:
- Lancaster Road near Orchard Lane
- Heather Farm Park Community Center parking lot (north end)
- Larkey Park parking lot
- Howe Homestead Park parking lot
- Rudgear Park parking lot
In addition, the Golden Rain Foundation is opening a sandbag station in the parking lot of its fitness center for residents of the community of Rossmoor.
