Narrative: | |||||
On January 4th, 2023, detectives from the Ventura County Sheriff’s – Moorpark Investigations Bureau arrested Alibek Gabdel Nagim, 28 years old, of Burbank for three residential burglaries that occurred in the city of Moorpark. The case began on December 12th, when deputies from the Moorpark Station responded to a home in the 14000 Block of Huron Ct for a call of a residential burglary. The residents explained to deputies that they believed their home had been burglarized as several small items were missing or had been disturbed. Deputies investigated and noted multiple minor signs indicating a burglary had taken place. However, they noted the residence was not ransacked and it appeared that the suspect attempted to minimize his presence in the home. The following day, the residents called deputies back to report they had noticed several unauthorized charges to their credit cards adding that the cards were missing, which they were not aware of when they initially called deputies the day before. The case was then assumed by the Moorpark Investigations Bureau. Detectives immediately obtained surveillance footage from an area department store that depicted the suspect making purchases using the victim’s credit cards that were taken in the home burglary. Detectives also noted that over the next few days, additional residential burglaries were reported to deputies in the same neighborhood with similar modus operandi. In each instance, detectives noted that it appeared the suspect attempted to minimize his presence in the homes, or in some cases, made multiple entries into the same home on different days. On December 28th, detectives learned that officers from the Simi Valley Police Department arrested a suspect, identified as Alibek Nagim, for residential burglary in the Wood Ranch neighborhood. Detectives contacted detectives from SVPD and learned that Nagim was arrested as he was exiting the victim’s home. Detectives compared the booking photograph of Nagim with the recently obtained surveillance footage and noted that they were identical. Detectives then worked with SVPD detectives and obtained evidence originally seized by SVPD officers during the arrest. Detectives also located Nagim’s car, which was still parked in the Wood Ranch neighborhood and seized it as evidence. Detectives later searched the vehicle, pursuant to a search warrant and located multiple pieces of evidence linking Nagim to several additional residential burglaries in the city of Moorpark, including burglaries that were unknown to the homeowners until they were notified by detectives. Detectives believe Nagim is responsible for burglarizing six different residences in the City of Moorpark that are all within two blocks of one another, over a two-week period. Detectives arrested Nagim while he was still in custody for the arrest in Simi Valley, and booked him on three additional counts of residential burglary. Nagim was arraigned on January 6th with bail set at $100,000.00. Additional charges are pending. |
