New Roadway Law in California Effective January 1, 2023
With the start of a new year, there are lots of new laws in California. There is one new law that impacts roadway travel and is important to highlight.
Passing a cyclist - Drivers are required to change lanes before passing a cyclist if a lane is available. If it is not safe to change lanes to provide more space for the cyclist, do not change lanes, but slow down and share the road to keep everyone safe. This law includes when bicyclists are traveling in their own designated bicycle lane.
