STORM ALERT UPDATE AS OF JANUARY 10 AT 2 PM
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ADVISORY FOR SF BAY AREA
The National Weather Service advises that this afternoon (Tuesday, 1/10), our region will receive showers and possibly a thunderstorm, with the thunderstorm potentially producing small hail and a large amount of rain. Overnight, rain is likely after 4 AM. Wednesday’s rain is predicted before 4 PM, and there is a 30% chance of rain in the evening before 10 PM. Thursday day and evening look to be cloudy, with minimal rain expected.
Local Flood Watch: In effect through today (Tuesday, 1/10) until 4 PM
Wind Advisory: In effect through today (Tuesday, 1/10) until 4 PM
Rain rates will exacerbate flooding concerns. Given the saturated soils and recent rains, we can expect rapid responses on all streams and creeks, with quick rises on the mainstem rivers, resulting in possible widespread flooding.
LOS ALTOS CREEK ADVISORIES REMAIN IN EFFECT
Do not approach any creek at this time: Fast-moving currents are visible to the eye and also flowing deceptively fast underneath the surface. The boardwalk at the Redwood Grove Nature Preserve that crosses Adobe Creek will remain closed as we experience heavy rainfall. Residents are advised to avoid all area creeks and streams, including Adobe Creek, Stevens Creek, Permanente Creek, and Hale Creek, as the water levels are high and they are experiencing fast-moving currents. With rain expected to continue through next week, there is a possibility of local flooding.
