On Friday, January 6, 2023 at approximately 1430 hours, Readington Police stopped a vehicle on Rt. 523 and Rt. 629 for swerving. The vehicle was operated by Brian Gougean of Whitehouse Sta. NJ. During the motor vehicle stop the officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver. The officer instructed Gougean to perform Field Sobriety Test, which he ultimately failed. Gougean was arrested and charged with DWI, driving while suspended, failure to maintain lane, careless driving, unregistered vehicle, and failure to provide insurance.  Gougean was released to a sober adult pending a future court appearance. The filing of charges is merely one step in the process. A defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
