DATE/TIME: January 17, 2023 / 1:40 a.m.

INCIDENT: Felony Evading and Possession of Stolen Property

LOCATION: Peyton Drive and Rock Springs Drive, Chino Hills

SUSPECT(S): 17-year-old Male Resident of Thermal and 17-year-old Male Resident of Coachella

VICTIM(S): People of the State of California

SUMMARY: On January 17, 2023, at 1:40 a.m., deputies from the Chino Hills Station attempted a traffic stop on a black Dodge Challenger for several vehicle code violations. The driver, identified as a 17-year-old resident of Coachella, failed to yield and fled from deputies at a high rate of speed. The driver entered the north SR-71 freeway and accelerated to speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. The driver continued on the west I-10 freeway toward Los Angeles. Deputies were unable to maintain a visual of the vehicle and the pursuit was terminated.

Personnel from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) located the Challenger and a second pursuit ensued. The driver exited the freeway and lost control of the vehicle in Baldwin Park. The driver and passenger, identified as a 17-year-old resident of Thermal, ran from the vehicle and were apprehended by CHP officers. A records check revealed the Challenger was reported stolen in November 2022 from Los Angeles. Deputies searched the vehicle and located a replica AR-15 rifle bb gun, floor jack, reciprocating saw, and saw blades. Deputies learned the suspect's vehicle was wanted in connection with several burglaries in Riverside County and an assault in Ontario.

Both juveniles were arrested and booked into San Bernardino County Juvenile Detention Center.
