NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE UPDATE
Last anticipated rainfall from this January storm event is expected Wednesday, January 18, from approximately 5 – 11 PM. A cold front has entered area and will remain through the beginning of next week, with overnight and morning temperatures in the mid-30°s to low 40°s. There is frost potential during this period. No additional significant rain or wind is forecast at this time. The city of Los Altos anticipates closing its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) this Thursday, January 19, if forecast continues as projected.
Local Flood Watch: Coastal flood advisory in effect in areas prone to flooding through Wednesday, January 18, at 4 PM. Potential flooding may persist into this weekend (January 21-22) during high tide cycles.
LOS ALTOS CREEK ADVISORIES REMAIN IN EFFECT
Hale Creek overflowed its banks at 3:09 AM this morning, January 17. The water receded by 6 AM and there were no reports of flooding. While no future flooding is anticipated, the creek will continue to be monitored.
The boardwalk at the Redwood Grove Nature Preserve that crosses Adobe Creek will remain closed. In addition to Hale Creek, residents are advised to avoid all creeks and streams including Adobe Creek, Stevens Creek, and Permanente Creek, as the water levels remain high with fast-moving currents. Potential of local flooding remains through the weekend (as noted above).
Sinkhole Report: A sinkhole, mainly in the median strip, opened on Foothill Expressway between Arboretum Drive and Homestead Road. It extends approximately 6” into the #1 (fast) lane, and approximately 8’ deep. Santa Clara County crews have started repairs, with one lane of traffic closed while repairs are completed.
