NARRATIVE:
On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, Pomona Police Dispatch received a call of a disturbance in the area of the 1300 block of West Holt Ave. The caller described a white SUV and its occupants as being involved in the disturbance. When Officers arrived on scene they located a vehicle they believed to be involved in the incident.
An Officer initiated a traffic stop and the occupants were detained. When the Officer asked the driver to step out of the vehicle, the driver was found to be in possession of a controlled substance. Officers searched the vehicle based on consent and the drugs found on the driver. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of a concealed and loaded handgun.
The driver, suspect Huerta, was found to be responsible for the loaded handgun in the vehicle. The handgun was not registered to Huerta. Huerta was booked at the Pomona city jail under the above listed charges. The remaining occupant was identified and released.
The Pomona Police Department is proactive in enforcing traffic violations. However, traffic stops are inherently dangerous due to unpredictable circumstances and/or the possibility that occupants of a vehicle could be armed. It is for this reason, the Pomona Police Department encourages its citizens to report illegal activity similar to the incident described.
UNIT:
The Pomona Police Department’s Patrol Division is responsible for responding to a multitude of various calls for service with a wide range of variables. Shifts of officers are assigned to squads that are each supervised by a Sergeant and a Corporal.

Call of a Disturbance Leads to the Arrest of an Armed Suspect

- 11370.1 (a) H&S – Possession of a Controlled Substance with a Firearm
- 25850 (c)(6) PC – Possession of a Loaded/Concealed Firearm
- 11377(a) H&S – Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine)
