Felon Arrested after 2 Shots Fired Complaints

On 01/21/2023 at 2:42 am Officers from the Janesville Police Department were dispatched to a shot fired complaint in the 400 block of N. Pearl Street. While investigating this incident officers heard a subsequent gunshot to the west in the 2300 Block of Harvard Drive. The Rock County Communications Center received calls supporting what the officers heard. As a result of the investigation Lenora Blakley is being held at the Rock County Jail on several charges.

Officers responded to N. Pearl Street met by a chaotic scene. While working through the investigation on N. Pearl Street the officers recovered shell casings during their search of the area. The officers who responded to the 2300 hundred block of Harvard Drive located Leonora Blakely and a friend outside of an apartment building. The officers learned Blakley was at a local bar prior to the incidents on Pearl Street and Harvard Drive. Blakley was intoxicated when officers contacted her, learning she was at both incident locations. The officers eventually took Blakley in to custody for a probation violation and transported her to the Rock County Jail, where a preliminary breath test indicated an alcohol value of .210.

Officers recovered a shell casing on the ground in front of the apartment Blakely was located at. A subsequent search of  Blakely’s residence produced two separate firearms. One of the guns is the same caliber as the casings found at both incident locations. When the officers checked the serial numbers on the firearms, they found one of the firearms was reported as stolen from Madison, WI. There was a total of four rounds fired between the two incident locations. We did not receive any reports of injury during either event.

Gun crime is an issue the Janesville Police Department takes very seriously. Officers from the afternoon and overnight shift took the initial complaint which started the investigation going in a positive direction. Officers from the daytime shift worked with the overnight officers to continue the investigation until an arrest was made and the weapons were recovered. Officers from all three shifts remained committed and determined to resolve this investigation and ensure the safety of these neighborhoods.
