Gloucester Township Police Media Release- Police Investigate Crash Involving Overturned Vehicle with Driver Entrapment
On Sunday, January 22, 2023 at approximately 5:31 pm Gloucester Township Police were dispatched to the area of College Drive, between Winding Way and Cherrywood Drive, for a report of motor vehicle crash involving an overturned vehicle and possibly a pedestrian.
Arriving Officers located a 2018 Hyundai Tuscan on its roof in the northbound lane with the driver incoherent and unable to self-extricate from the vehicle. It was determined there were no pedestrians involved or injured as a result of the crash. GTFD Station 85 arrived to stabilize the vehicle and safely removed the driver after removing the driver’s side door. Inspira BLS and Virtua ALS treated the driver for possible head and internal injuries before transporting to Cooper University Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
The crash is being investigated by the Gloucester Township Police Department’s Serious Crash Investigation Team. Initial investigation revealed the Hyundai Tuscan was traveling northbound on College Drive where it lost control and began traveling in the southbound lanes. The vehicle then came back into the northbound lane where it struck a curb and utility pole causing it to overturn and slide on its roof for a short distance. At this time, it is not suspected that impaired driving was a contributing factor in the crash. College Drive was closed for approximately two and a half hours during the initial phases of the investigation. The name of the driver is being withheld at this time pending notifications.
