INCIDENT: Evading a Peace Officer with a Disregard for Safety
LOCATION: Intersection of Amargosa Road and Dos Palmas Road, Victorville
SUSPECT(S): John Wilkerson, 40-Year-Old Male Resident of Apple Valley
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUMMARY: On Friday, January 20, 2023, at approximately 8:17 p.m., while conducting proactive patrol, Deputy Greterman from the Victorville Police Department observed a black Toyota Camry commit several traffic violations. He attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle near the intersection of Amargosa Road and Dos Palmas Road in Victorville. The driver failed to yield and led deputies on a pursuit, just over three miles, through residential neighborhoods, endangering others on the road.
The pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle collided with a tree. Deputies detained the suspect, John Wilkerson. Wilkerson was found to be on post release community supervision out of Riverside for felony evading.
Emergency medical personnel responded and treated Wilkerson at the scene for traffic related injuries. He was transported to the hospital for medical clearance before being booked into West Valley Detention Center for felony evading a peace officer with a disregard for safety, and an outstanding probation warrant.
