Emergency Sirens to be Tested on Tuesday, January 31, 2023:

The City of Wilmington will conduct a test of its Emergency Alert and Notification system on Tuesday, January 31, 2023. The sirens will sound, and test verbal announcements will be made at approximately 10:45 a.m. next Tuesday morning.

There are 13 sirens located throughout the City that will be activated for three to five minutes next week. These sirens were installed in 2005 as an added means to alert residents and businesses in Wilmington in the event of an actual emergency.

The siren system is part of the City’s expanded emergency notification capabilities that include subscription-based Smart 911 [smart911.com] and the non-subscription Integrated Public Alert Warning System [fema.gov] (IPAWS).Through IPAWS, messages and calls can be sent to cell devices in a designated area.

Next week’s test will be conducted by Willie Patrick, the Emergency Management Director for the City of Wilmington. Questions and concerns about the test can be directed to Willie Patrick at 302.576.3915 or by email at [email protected].
