ADVISORY: Recently, we have received numerous complaints from our residents stating that they have been victims of a telephone scam. The suspects are telling people that they failed to go to jury duty and that, if they don’t pay a fine, an arrest warrant will be issued for them.

The suspects request payment via cash apps or gift cards. The suspects are claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Office, the Redwood City Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies. They usually use fake phone numbers that appear to be legitimate, local ones.
 
THIS IS A SCAM! If you receive a call demanding payment for missing jury duty, do not make any payments. If you have been a victim of this scam, please check any accounts associated with the cash app used to make sure your financial accounts have not been compromised.
