INCIDENT: Major Injury Traffic Collision Resulting in Death
LOCATION: Old Woman Springs Road (SR-247) & Terra Vista Road, Yucca Valley
VICTIM(S): Driver 1, 55 year-old female resident of Perris / Driver 2, 59 year-old male resident of Yucca Valley
SUMMARY: On January 27, 2023, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Yucca Valley Deputies responded to and unknown injury traffic collision at Old Woman Springs Road (SR-247) and Terra Vista Road. Deputies learned the female driver of a Chevrolet HHR, drove southbound on SR-247 and collided head on into a Kia Soul, which drove northbound on SR-247. The driver of the Chevrolet sustained major injuries and was transported to Hi-Desert Medical Center where she later succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Kia was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.
The reason for the collision is under investigation, but drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor at this time. Morongo Basin Station Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) responded to the scene and is investigating the collision. Both north and southbound SR-247 were closed, with the assistance of Cal-Trans, for several hours between Buena Vista Drive and Aberdeen Avenue, while deputies conducted their investigation.
