Crescenta Valley Station Gives Catalytic Converter Theft Prevention Tips
Catalytic converter theft is a common occurrence across Los Angeles County. Your vehicle's catalytic converter is an exhaust system part that is necessary for your car to pass safety and emissions inspections. Replacing a catalytic converter can cost as much as $1,500-$3,000. Your vehicle can have anywhere from 1-4 catalytic converters.
To help avoid being a victim, take the following precautions:
- Park in well-lit areas.
- Get cameras around your residence which face your vehicles.
- Get a dash camera.
- Install an anti-theft device (such as a cage or shield).
- Have your catalytic converter etched. This can be done at a repair shop or community etching event.
- If you see suspicious activity, immediately report it to Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station at 818-248-3464. If it is an emergency, dial 911.
